Timber Treatment Investment by James E. Smith

James E. Smith (Timber) Ltd., one of the UK’s leading privately owned importers of timber and sheet materials, has made a major new investment in terms of it’s timber preservative treatment capabilities.

With a long established tradition of importing through the Humber ports, James E. Smith now have their own dedicated timber protection facility on a purpose built site close to the docks at Barrow Haven and New Holland. A brand new 2m diameter x 18.5m long treatment vessel will not only allow the company to significantly increase its production of ready treated building, fencing, decking and landscaping timbers but also offer a cost effective service treatment facility to local merchants or companies importing timbers through the east coast ports.

Barry Hurst of James E. Smith commented, “Our £250,000 investment in the New Holland operation will add to our existing timber treatment facilities at Birmingham to help ensure we can supply FSC or PEFC certified quality treated timbers to UK importers and merchants, as well as fencing, landscaping and agricultural contractors. Utilising Tanalith E preservative within our two treatment operations will continue to give our customers complete confidence that their timbers can have a significantly extended service life right across the range of usual in and out of ground contact applications.”

The New Holland Terminal also provides extensive under cover storage in addition to its 4 acres of open storage space for untreated and or treated goods. Full loading and unloading onto customers transport is part of the service from James E. Smith, or, alternatively subsequent distribution can be arranged throughout the UK.
