Who’ll be the New Champion?

The UK Fencing Championships are here again, and time for you to enter the high-spirited event is running out! So far, we have ten entrants to take the title of the hands of Charlie Hubbard, the 2007 Champion who will be judging this year alongside the legendary Jock Bryce – But we are looking for more of you to join up, for both the senior event and the under 21s.

This year’s event, which takes place over the 18th and 19th September (with a demonstration on the 20th), is expected to be every bit as good as last year’s triumphant affair - and as it is being held in conjunction with the highly established APF international forestry exhibition, there will be even more bodies through the door to witness the coronation of the new fencing sovereign!

The event, organised by Fencing and Landscaping News, has an ever-growing prestige and is sponsored by McVeigh Parker, Kanga, Arch Timber, Gripple and Osmose. The rewards on offer will be categorized into two separate groups – the senior and the Under 21’s. For the senior, 3rd prize will be £250, 2nd prize £500 and the winner will receive £1000. In the under 21’s category the 3rd prize will be £150, the 2nd prize £300 and the junior winner will collect £500. Rules and regulations will be posted on our website soon. For all fencers who enjoy the hearty conflict that arises in a little healthy competition, please be sure to get in touch.

The APF international forestry exhibition, in which we will be hosting our very own ‘Fencing News Village’, will be host to a wide variety of arena events, competitions and displays – and a visit to APF 2008 will provide a rare opportunity for the public to learn about what goes on to look after Britain’s 6.76 million acres of woods and forests. Already we have had 15 who have signed up to exhibit, and again, will be hoping for a few more. For those wanting to exhibit at the event, the price for a stand measuring 3x3m is £850.

In addition to this hectic schedule, a reminder to those wanting to attend our networking dinner this year at the Moat House Hotel at Acton Trussell, just outside Cannock, on 18th September 2008. Those who attended last year will be sure to remember the after-dinner speaker George ‘Doddie’ Weir and his witty narrations, and in the same vein this year, we will be joined after dinner by the trick shot king himself, John Virgo who we are sure will have many an interesting tale to tell.

The cost will be £65.00 per head, and to sign up for what promises to be a memorable evening, just contact Simone on 01274 610101 or email simone.gallon@btconnect.com
